frise gite la source en dordogne-périgord

Périgord Noir, part of the ‘departement’ Dordogne, owes its name to the many oak trees and truffles that can be found there.

The area is situated in between the ‘Dordogne’ and the ‘Vézère’, two rivers meandering through beautiful little medieval towns, villages and castles, where in summer people canoe and fish. It is an ancient area with many prehistoric caves, some of which have fine examples of well preserved prehistoric paintings and sculptures.

The local cuisine is mainly known for its “Foie Gras”,
truffles, walnuts, Monbazillac (sweet white wine), mushrooms, duck- and goose-liver pies and fresh river fish.

St. Geniès is at about 7.5 miles from Sarlat and Montignac (Lascaux) and 12.5 miles from Les Eyzies. In the little village there is a baker, butcher, grocery, restaurant and a local tennis court. Every Sunday you can visit a little market where regional products are sold (mainly food). “La Source” is some 2 miles from the village.

In the vicinity of St. Geniès you can enjoy many activities: golf, horse-riding, walking, canoeing etc.
