| Périgord Noir, part of the departement Dordogne, owes its name to the many oak trees and truffles that can be found there. The area is situated in between the Dordogne and the Vézère, two rivers meandering through beautiful little medieval towns, villages and castles, where in summer people canoe and fish. It is an ancient area with many prehistoric caves, some of which have fine examples of well preserved prehistoric paintings and sculptures. The local cuisine is mainly known for its Foie Gras, truffles, walnuts, Monbazillac (sweet white wine), mushrooms, duck- and goose-liver pies and fresh river fish. |
